Ozarks Medical Center is offering a variety of ways for you to educate yourself on Colon health, including free home screening kits.  You can pick up your free kit at any of the OMC Clinics. ..Alton, Thayer, Mammoth Spring, Gainesville, Mountain Grove, Mountain View, Winona and Urgent Care in West Plains.  The following Senior Centers will offer a meeting to educate you more about your colon.

Wednesday, March 7 – 1-3 p.m. Free Cooking demonstration, guest speaker about Colon Health and free home test available.

Wednesday, March 14 – 9-11 a.m. – Free Cooking demonstration…guest speaker about Colon Health and free home test available.

Thursday, March 15 – 6 – 7 p.m. – OMC Parkway Center in West Plains.  Guest speaker is Dr. Magdy Giurgius, Free Home test available…dinner is free but reservations are required.  Call 417-257-6793 for you reservation.

MARCH– The Highland Adult Education Center is offering free GED classes at 33 Choctaw Center in Cherokee Village – Enrollment is Monday and Wednesday from 8:00 until 10:00 a.m.  and Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. For more information call 870-257-3739 or e-mail

MARCH 2 – 3 – is the 2018 Home and Garden Show in West Plains Civic Center.  The theme is “The Smart Home if Here”. Hours are 3 to 8 on Friday and 9 to 5 on Saturday. The two day passes are $5.00 and children 12 and under admitted free.



A Community Blood Drive will be held at the Koshkonong High School on Friday, March 2nd from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m. To be eligible to give blood you must weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good health and present a valid photo ID.  Giving blood is giving life to your community.

A benefit auction will be held for Kay Burns this Saturday beginning at 4:00 p.m. in the Winona Elementary School.  There will be a chili supper, live entertainment, raffles and auction items. All proceeds will go to help Kay to be able to live in her home and for basic medical needs.  She lost her hands and both legs when she went into septic shock and the treatment was necessary to save her life.  For donations in any way contact Earleen Burns at 417-247-6737 or Michelle Maness at 417-234-0020.  Anything and everything will be greatly appreciated.


SATURDAY, MARCH 3: Mammoth Spring

Mammoth Spring Prom Lock-In Chili Supper and Auction scheduled for this Saturday 3/3 has been cancelled for now due to the Girls Basketball in the State Tournament this week.




The Alton Library will be offering classes to learn basic computer skills beginning weekly on Monday, March 5th from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m.  For more information contact the Alton Library at 417-778-6414 or stop by the library.



The South Central Cattlemen meet Thursday, March 8th at 7:00 p.m. at Mega Motorsports, 3874 North Hiway 63 in West Plains.  The Troop G of Missouri State Highway Patrol will give a presentation on electronic logging devices for highway trucking and pulling trailers.  A meal will be served at 6:00 p.m.

SATURDAY, MARCH 10 – Cherokee Village

“The Cherokee Village United Methodist Women’s Annual Flea Market will be held Saturday, March 10, 8:30 am – 1:00 pm. There will be lots of clothes, kitchen items, books, jewelry, linens, tools, and elegant junk – something for everyone!
A Soup/Dessert Lunch by the United Methodist Men will be available from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. The church is located in Cherokee Village at the corner of Keno & Otter – follow the signs! As always, proceeds benefit local mission ministries.”

SATURDAY, MARCH 10 – Is Blue Bird Day at the Mammoth Spring State Park.



The Crusaders for Life is having a bake sale  on Saturday March 10th at Hirsch Feed in Thayer, from 9am to 3pm. Come out and help us “saving lives one dollar at a time”.



The Koshkonong Junior class is sponsoring a Donkey Basketball game on Saturday, March 10th at 7:30 p.m. in the Koshkonong High School gym.  Tickets are $10.00 in advance and $12.00 at the door.  Proceeds will go to help raise money for prom. A Benefit BBQ for John Oroze is set March 10th from noon till 3 at the American Legion Post 336 in Williford. John is recovering from a terrible accent that has left him unable to help himself. and pay medical bills.  The cost of a plate is $9 and includes BBQ Pork with several sides.   A silent auction will also be held.  All proceed to the John and Chris Oroze to help this family. Please come and support this need.



A Gun Show will be held at the George D. MARCH 11 – 14 – THAYER

THE Thayer Free Will Baptist Church at 4th and Oak Street in Thayer will have revival services March 11 through the 14th.  Services will be at 7:00 p.m. each week night service and 10:45 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Guest speak is Rev. Jim McComas from Nashville, Tenn.  Special singing nightly   Nursery is available.  Supper will be served at 6 p.m. each evening.  Everyone welcome.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 14 – Thomasville:

The Thomasville Branch of the Oregon County Public Library is now open inside the Thomasville Community Center on Main Street Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  The Library was totally destroyed from the flood in Thomasville April 29th, 2017.  An open house till be held Wednesday, March 14th from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. at the library. The Irish Wilderness St. Jude Trail Ride will be held Saturday, March 17 at 10:00 a.m.  on County Road J between Alton and Doniphan.  Primitive camping available…generators welcome.  All horses, mules and wagons are welcome…horses and mules must have a negative Coggins test. The South Fork School in West Plains will hold pre- school and kindergarten screening and registration on Thursday, April 5th from 8:00 until 3:30 in the school cafeteria.  Child must have Birth certificate, immunization records, social security number and proof of residency. Friends of the 11 Point River are hosting an open house for Greer Mills on Saturday, April 28th.  There will be a raffle for different items…proceeds will be used for continuing project. T-shirts will be sold, Bar-B-Q will be available, and live music provided.
